The Ivor Novello Award-winning singer-songwriter Mysie has returned with her latest single, ‘Patterns’. As with most of her music, this track defies genre-boundaries. At the forefront, we have smooth beats and a soulful vocal, but there are deeper intricacies that lean towards electronica, hip-hop and straight-up pop hooks. She explains that “this song is about recognising the patterns within myself, and within my relationships. t’s about me acknowledging them and searching for freedom from them, making a conscious decision to break these habits and instead strive for growth and progress”. 2020 has been an exceptional year for the South London newcomer, but her formula-avoiding music is surely to only reach new heights next year. -Dan Peeke
